Our Take on Beowulf

This is the SSR Otherworld Return Beowulf (a separate SR Sanctum Glory Beowulf also exists). He is a hybrid Warrior who mixes magic area damage from Dark Rising with single-target Hammer Time strikes, and his Death Defiance talent lets him survive one fatal hit and keep fighting at higher speed for a short, costly window.

Strengths

  • +Dark Rising deals 330% area magic damage and then pulses for 110% every 2 seconds for 8 seconds, giving him lingering area pressure.
  • +Death Defiance survives the first fatal hit and restores 60% max HP, with his attacks gaining 60% speed afterwards.
  • +Unbreakable Form grants a 5% max HP shield per enemy hit for 8 seconds, plus 2% per Deathrattle stack.
  • +Infinite Strength turns allied Overdrives into awakening charges for bonus hammer strikes, and level 4 makes each Hammer Time reduce his next Overdrive cost by 1.

Weaknesses

  • โˆ’After Death Defiance triggers he loses 10% max HP per second, so the second life is a short burst window rather than real sustain.
  • โˆ’Hammer Time is single-target until level 7, which needs 5 Deathrattle stacks, meaning allies must already have fallen.
  • โˆ’The in-game text does not specify how Hammer Time's 7% damage resilience steal affects the target or how long it lasts.

How to Play Beowulf

Beowulf is a front-row Warrior and wants to be hit, since Unbreakable Form scales with enemies struck. Open with Dark Rising to start its 8-second damage pulses, then weave Hammer Time between Overdrives; at level 4 each Hammer Time makes the next Overdrive cheaper. Level 2 adds 30% Hammer Time damage and is the simplest upgrade. Level 7 only pays off in long fights where allies fall, so do not rush it unless you build a Deathrattle team.

Good Teammates

  • Gudong (SSR) โ€“ Gudong's kit is built around dying, and every allied defeat feeds the Deathrattle stacks that strengthen Beowulf's shield and level 7 Hammer Time.
  • Nanalie (SSR) โ€“ Nanalie's Wild Echo cuts allied Overdrive cooldowns, producing more allied Overdrives for Infinite Strength's awakening charges.

Keywords in brackets are explained in the status effect glossary.

Should You Invest?

Beowulf (SSR) is rated T3 here, so he is best treated as a Deathrattle-team specialist rather than a general carry. If you are deciding between the two Beowulfs, check faction first: this one is Otherworld Return, while the SR version is Sanctum Glory.

Beowulf FAQ

What is the difference between Beowulf SR and Beowulf SSR?
They are separate units. This SSR Beowulf is an Otherworld Return Warrior focused on Deathrattle and Death Defiance; the SR Beowulf is a Sanctum Glory berserker.
Does Beowulf revive?
Not exactly. Death Defiance lets him survive the first fatal damage and recover 60% max HP, but he then loses 10% max HP per second.
There is more than one Beowulf in the game. Other version: Beowulf (SR Warrior, T3).
