Our Take on Grimnir

Grimnir is an SR Warrior who ramps Attack Speed by staying on one target. Momentum Builder adds 15% Attack Speed after each damage instance on the same target, up to 10 stacks, and resets when he switches. Valor's Cry trades 40% of his current HP for [Attack Up] and a shield worth 42% of the HP lost, and that HP loss builds Rage toward [Wild], where he gains 35% Attack Speed and 15% Damage Reduction.

Strengths

  • +Momentum Builder can reach 10 stacks of 15% Attack Speed on one target, and Glory Days adds 80% of Attack to every basic attack for 8 seconds after its 270% area hit.
  • +Valor's Cry both builds Rage and protects him, since its shield equals 42% of the HP he gives up.
  • +At talent level 4, [Wild] adds control immunity and another 15% Damage Reduction, and level 2 reduces his Overdrive cost by 1 while in [Wild].

Weaknesses

  • โˆ’Momentum Builder resets whenever he changes targets, so fights where targets die or move often waste his ramp-up.
  • โˆ’Valor's Cry costs 40% of current HP and he has no self-healing, so he relies on allied healers after each cast.

How to Play Grimnir

Grimnir fights in the front row and wants to lock onto one durable target, such as a boss or enemy tank, to build Momentum Builder stacks. Use Valor's Cry early to drop his HP and gain Rage toward [Wild], then cast Glory Days so its 8-second basic attack bonus lines up with high Attack Speed. Talent level 4 is the key upgrade, because control immunity protects the Momentum Builder ramp from being interrupted. Level 2's Overdrive cost reduction lets him use Glory Days more often once he is in [Wild]. The in-game text does not say how long [Wild] lasts.

Good Teammates

  • Chiron (SR) โ€“ Chiron's Hero Mentor gives allies in [Wild] 25% Attack Speed, stacking with Grimnir's own 35% [Wild] bonus and Momentum Builder.
  • Drasill (SSR) โ€“ Drasill's Root Juice regenerates 2% Max HP per second for shielded allies in [Wild], and Grimnir shields himself with Valor's Cry.
  • Flora (SR) โ€“ Flora's In Bloom targets the lowest-HP ally and heals 50% more on [Wild] targets, which fits Grimnir after Valor's Cry drops his HP.

Keywords in brackets are explained in the status effect glossary.

Should You Invest?

Grimnir is an SR rated T4 on this site. He has a clear single-target plan for boss fights, but he needs a Wild Spirit support group to cover his HP costs. Consider him a low-priority build unless you are already assembling a [Wild] team.

Grimnir FAQ

How does Grimnir's Momentum Builder work?
Each damage instance against the same target adds 15% Attack Speed, up to 10 stacks. All stacks reset when he changes targets.
How does Grimnir enter [Wild]?
His secret skill, No Guts, No Glory, builds Rage when his HP decreases, and he enters [Wild] when Rage is full. Valor's Cry's 40% HP sacrifice is a reliable way to build that Rage.
