Our Take on Tamamo
Tamamo is T2: very good in PvE, middling in PvP. Her damage comes from Magic Defense rather than Attack alone. Divine Fox's Blessing raises her Magic Defense by 30-43.2% and adds 80-116% of it to every active skill hit, and Foxfire Bind steals more from her target as the fight goes on. Focus is the condition: switching targets clears all Bind stacks, though at talent level 7 a kill passes 5 stacks to the next target and refills her Rage, so she drops into Wild for a 30-missile Foxfire Frenzy. Red 3★ already deals good damage, and her star note says there is no reason not to take her to Diamond.
Strengths
- +Divine Fox's Blessing raises her Magic Defense by 30-43.2% and adds 80-116% of it to every active skill hit.
- +Foxfire Bind steals 4-5.2% Magic Defense per stack, up to 10 stacks, so her damage grows the longer she stays on one target.
- +At talent level 7 a kill on a target with 5 or more stacks refills her Rage to 100% and passes 5 stacks to the next target.
- +Above 70% HP, Soulflame Boomerang spends 30% of current HP for a Blessing Buff, more damage and 100% Lifesteal, which also builds Rage.
Weaknesses
- −Switching targets clears every Foxfire Bind stack, so spread-out fights or taunts cost her damage.
- −The steal does not affect bosses, which lowers her output against single bosses.
- −Grace needs both Morale and Fervor, and she relies on teammates for steady access.
- −She is middling in PvP, where targets die or swap before her stacks build.
How to Play Tamamo
Keep Tamamo in the back row and on one target. Every active skill hit has a chance to add Foxfire Bind, 30% at first and 50% from talent level 2, which also steals Overdrive Damage Boost per stack. At full stacks, talent level 4 shields her for 10% of Attack per hit, stacking up to 10 times. Time Foxfire Frenzy for the Wild state. In Wild, her active skills ignore 15% of Magic Defense, and Foxfire Frenzy fires 10 extra missiles with all missiles dealing 160% more damage. Soulflame Boomerang above 70% HP is the fastest way there, since it spends 30% of her current HP. A kill at 5 or more Bind stacks also fills her Rage at talent level 7. Grace is a bonus layer. With Morale and Fervor she adds more Magic Defense damage to Foxfire Frenzy, and Nine-Tailed Bewitchment fires 6 extra projectiles. In Spirit formation 5 she casts first; in Sanctum formation 8, right after Athena. For divinity, take Attack at level 1, Wild Attack at level 2, Attack at level 3, Wild Attack or Haste at level 4, Haste at level 5 and Soul Devour at level 6, which grants Attack Speed Up and Significant Attack Boost when her target reaches full stacks. She is at her best in long PvE fights.
Good Teammates
- Hela (SSR EX) – Hela's Gaze mark gives allies extra Crit and damage, with more for allies in Grace, and the two share Sanctum formations 8 and 9.
- Vivienne (SSR+) – Vivienne grants Fervor on possession at talent level 2, one half of the Morale and Fervor pair Tamamo needs for Grace.
- Hitomi (SSR+) – Hitomi shares Sanctum Glory and Wild Spirit and links to Tamamo in Sanctum formation 9, swapping 15% of each other's Attack and Defenses.
- Athena (SSR EX) – Athena shares both factions and casts before Tamamo in Sanctum formation 8, and her Life Link grants Fervor at talent level 3.
- Prometheus (SSR EX) – Prometheus joins her in Spirit formation 5 and can grant Haste when an ally enters Wild through her level 4 divinity.
Keywords in brackets are explained in the status effect glossary.
Should You Invest?
Her star note says there is no reason not to pull her to Diamond, 18 copies in total, though Red 3★ already deals good damage. For divinity favour Attack, Wild Attack and Soul Devour at level 6. The recommended Star Crystal Greatsword relic is a better fit than it looks: it raises Magic Defense along with Attack, and her damage scales on Magic Defense. Star Crystal Bow is the listed alternative. Potion Master and Grand Archmage both add 16% Magic Defense; Rune Mage is the third option. Gear is the Arcane Haste set with Tome of Stars and Starlight Magisterium. Free-to-play players should aim for Red 3★.
Tamamo FAQ
- Is Tamamo good in PvP?
- Middling. She is a PvE unit first: her Foxfire Bind stacks need time on one target, and PvP fights often end or swap targets before they build. She still appears in high-end Sanctum formations next to Hela and Apollo.
- Why does Tamamo scale with Magic Defense?
- Divine Fox's Blessing raises her Magic Defense by 30-43.2% and makes every active skill hit add 80-116% of her Magic Defense as damage. Foxfire Bind then steals Magic Defense from her target, so both sides of her kit grow that stat.
- What star level does Tamamo need?
- Red 3★ already deals good damage. The star note says there is no reason not to go to Diamond, but free-to-play players can stop at Red 3★ and spend elsewhere.
- What is the best relic for Tamamo?
- The kit recommends Star Crystal Greatsword, with Star Crystal Bow as the alternative. Greatsword raises Attack and both Defenses by 14.4%, and more for every 10 seconds survived, which suits her because her damage scales on Magic Defense.
