Dvalin Dragon Traveler Build & Guide

Flameforged Dragon Princess

T2SSR+Guardian
Role: Wild tank / anti-Illusion Guardian
Factions: Elemental Echo / Wild Spirit
Best For: Holy King Contest, PvP against Illusion Veil, Elemental Echo Trial Realm, Wild Spirit Trial Realm, Wyrmbone Ruins

Overview

Dvalin is an SSR+ Guardian from Elemental Echo and Wild Spirit who blocks, cleanses and heals through Dragonkin Form and shrugs off Overdrive cost increases. Red Scale Gauntlet heals whenever a cost increase lands on Dvalin, and talent node 7 strips those increases from same-faction allies, which makes Dvalin the natural counter to Illusion Veil teams.

Our Take on Dvalin

Dvalin is T2 in our list and one of the best Guardians for Elemental Echo and Wild Spirit players. The anti-Illusion angle is the key. Illusion Veil teams built on Atanith, Artemis, Pompey and Ningrose win by raising your Overdrive costs. Dvalin heals 9-13% of Max HP each time such an increase is applied, removes it from self through talent node 4, and at node 7 removes it from same-faction allies whenever Dragonkin Form is cast. Add 280-520 Block, with the same again in Wild, and an area pulse every 2 seconds, and Dvalin is both durable and threatening. In Elemental Echo, Salome now competes for the slot, but Dvalin remains a top Holy King Contest duelist.

Strengths

  • +Red Scale Gauntlet restores 9-13% of Max HP each time an Overdrive cost increase is applied to Dvalin.
  • +Dragonkin Form cleanses all debuffs from Dvalin, heals 33-57% of Max HP (40% more if already in Wild) and fills Rage to 100%, so it doubles as a Wild trigger.
  • +Talent node 7 makes Dragonkin Form give all allies Physical Defense Up and strip Overdrive cost increases from same-faction allies.
  • +In Wild, Domain of Wild Flames deals 230-390% of Attack around Dvalin every 2 seconds with a Burn chance that grows with Block.

Weaknesses

  • −The cost-increase cleanse at talent node 7 only covers allies of the same faction.
  • −Diamond is the recommended star level, so the full kit is expensive.
  • −In Elemental Echo teams, Salome's kit now fits the reaction plan better, so Dvalin is not an automatic pick there.
  • −On its own, Dvalin cannot turn a losing Wild Spirit fight around; it needs carries behind it.

How to Play Dvalin

Dvalin holds the front row. Dragonkin Form is both a heal and the fastest route to Wild, because it sets Rage to 100%. Cast it early to enter Wild, or hold it as an emergency cleanse under heavy debuffs, since a cast while already in Wild heals 40% more. Talent node 4 cuts its cooldown by 2 seconds every time Dvalin takes damage equal to 30% of Max HP, so under pressure it comes back quickly. Flameblade Reversal targets the farthest enemy Luminary and returns a shield. If that target carries an Elemental Debuff, the shield goes to all allies in a large circle instead, so in Elemental Echo teams let Morgana, Poseidon or Zagreus apply their debuffs first. Against Illusion Veil, Dvalin's value peaks. Every cost increase from Atanith's Cursed Domain, Artemis's Phantom Hunt or Ningrose's Corrupted Javelin turns into healing, and Dragonkin Form at talent node 7 removes the increases from same-faction allies. Crimson Scale Battleplate, the level 6 divinity, extends that idea by healing any ally hit with a cost increase for 5% of its Max HP. For divinity, Wild Block Rate at level 2 and Health Enhancement at 3 and 5 suit the Block build, and Wild Haste at level 4 speeds up skills. In one-minute Holy King Contest duels, the self-heals and Block make Dvalin very hard to out-damage.

Good Teammates

  • Venus (SSR EX) – Venus shares both factions and heals any ally entering Wild for 18% of Max HP, which pairs with Dragonkin Form putting Dvalin straight into Wild.
  • Vermilion Bird (SSR+) – Vermilion Bird is the main carry in Elemental Echo example teams with Dvalin as tank, and Dvalin's Burn chance in Wild adds to the reactions that power Vermilion Bird.
  • Morgana (SSR+) – Morgana spreads Cold and other Elemental Debuffs, so Flameblade Reversal's shield goes to every nearby ally instead of Dvalin alone.
  • Jing (SSR+) – Jing is the Wild Spirit main carry behind Dvalin in several example teams, and Dvalin entering Wild triggers Jing's Wild Crit divinity bonus.

Keywords in brackets are explained in the status effect glossary.

Should You Invest?

Dvalin is Diamond-recommended, and Diamond takes 18 copies, so plan the spending. Take Wild Block Rate at divinity level 2, Health Enhancement at 3, Wild Haste at 4, Block Enhancement or Health Enhancement at 5, and Crimson Scale Battleplate at 6. Gear is the HP set or the Block set, both with the Arcane weapon and accessory for 1 less Overdrive Energy. Templar is the subclass. The exclusive Dragonbreath Greatsword adds 60% Block Damage Reduction efficiency and turns healing received into damage in Wild; it shines in Holy King Contest duels. Free-to-play players in Elemental Echo or Wild Spirit should build Dvalin before most other tanks.

Dvalin FAQ

Why is Dvalin good against Illusion Veil teams?
Illusion Veil lineups rely on raising your Overdrive costs. Dvalin heals 9-13% of Max HP each time a cost increase lands, removes it from self at talent node 4, and at node 7 removes it from same-faction allies when Dragonkin Form is cast.
Dvalin or Salome for Elemental Echo?
Salome's mechanics fit the Elemental Echo reaction plan better at the moment, so Salome has taken that slot in many teams. Dvalin is still the stronger pick for Wild Spirit and for Holy King Contest duels, and the two appear together in several example teams.
What star level does Dvalin need?
Diamond is recommended. That takes 18 copies, so free-to-play players should plan around limited summons and treat lower stars as a working stage.
Is Dragonbreath Greatsword worth it?
For duels, yes: more Damage Reduction from Block, extra Rage after blocking, and bonus damage based on healing received while in Wild. In regular Elemental Echo content the gain is smaller, since Salome often takes the tank slot.
